Let’s Get Physical…Our ‘Future’ depends on it!

// August 12th, 2010 // No Comments » // Fitness, Mind/Body/inspiration, Running, Shakeology, Sirius Nutrition, Team Beachbody, Verve/Vemma Next, wellness

I hand out my business cards to folks, they look at it and say…”I ain’t running… I don’t run!…I don’t workout! ” This week I even had someone tell me he doesn’t eat fruits or vegetables. I don’t expect everyone to be in love with fitness and health and have the same passion as I do. Considering the negative trends of obesity and preventable health related diseases and deaths, I would expect people to be a little more mindful of how they treat their bodies. Overeating, lack of exercise, dependency on prescription drugs, smoking, excessive drinking (alcohol) are just a few of the issues that plague this society and are hurting the growth and development of our future generations.

I have kids and I don’t want to outlive them. An old Chinese Proverb states…‘To outlive one’s children is a curse of the gods.’ Sadly this may become an unfortunate trend. This trend be can be reversed through exercise. Now we, as the adults have to get ourselves moving and be positive role models (in Health) for our youth. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you need Physical Activity to:
* Maintain weight.
* Reduce high blood pressure.
* Reduce risk for type 2 diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and several forms of cancer.
* Reduce arthritis pain and associated disability.
* Reduce risk for osteoporosis and falls.
* Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

This is why I do what I do. I really care about the well being of others and I will do anything in my power to make sure I assist as many people start their journey towards wellness and be a catalyst towards change in their lives. Boot Camps, Run Clubs, Fitness classes, Fitness advice, Nutritional advice and most importantly…MOTIVATION is what I will offer to those willing to accept it!

My Shakeology Cleanse Day 3

// May 12th, 2010 // No Comments » // Shakeology, Sirius Nutrition, Team Beachbody, wellness

Yeah! I’m finished with my 3-Day cleanse! Unlike the 30-Day Master Cleanse I did a year and a half ago, this one was much easier. What I did notice about this cleanse was the fact that the nutrients in the Shakeology really sustained me and not once did I fell weak or tired. I also love the fact that it didn’t compromise my regular workouts (I did ChaLean Extreme today and my Insanity/P90X hybrid w/ my Boot Camp Class) or the classes I teach! I didn’t do it to lose weight…I wanted to clean out my system and in the process I did happen to lose 8 pounds. (Yay for me!) I’m glad to see that I have inspired others to try the cleanse and use it as a “Springboard” for their new eating habits.

**I’ll be starting another 3-Day next week, so I can support my folks who are starting on the 17th of May. I think I’ll do a Video blog for that week. SEE YOU THEN!!**

(RE)Starting Shakeology 30 Day Challenge

// September 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // Sirius Nutrition, wellness

OK…OK…OK…I was doing very well with the Shakeology and my nutrition until my birthday weekend and a couple days before my birthday. Am I mad I fell off the wagon? NO…I gotta pick myself up and get rolling again. I just turned 40 and it is time to “take it up a notch!” I had one of these moments last year when I went on a cleanse and lost 35 lbs. between the cleanse and working out consistently…now it is  another “moment”. I just turned 40 and as of October 1st I’m rededicating myself to my original goals of Fitness (P90X) and Nutrition (Shakeology) and am welcoming all those who want to join me. Eating right…Exercising…Living a Balanced Life!

Lets talk about Shakeology:

Shakeology is a nutritional supplement made up of essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to curb cravings, allowing it to shed stored fat while the more than 20 different antioxidants and phytonutrients help reduce free radical damage that can lead to heart disease, heart attacks, high blood pressure, and stroke.

If you want to lose weight Shakeology can help…if you want to eliminate toxins Shakeology can help…Energy? Shakeology Hmmmm, What about Taste? Shakeology comes in delicious Chocolate and Greenberry and there are many ways to mix it your favorite fruits, juices, milks, etc… to cater to your taste buds! (I personally mix Greenberry with Organic Frozen Mango from Costco, I also mix the Chocolate with Organic Peanut Butter.)

If you would like some information on Shakeology, go to Shakeology.com and if you are interested in purchasing Shakeology and joining me on my Challenge go to SiriusCoach.com.

Peace and Health, Nasara

Dumbbell Workouts: Stop Wasting Your Time & Start Getting Results!

// September 7th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Fitness, wellness

Dumbbell Workouts: Stop Wasting Your Time & Start Getting Results!
04-Sep-2009
(BlackDoctor.org) — Every time I see a man or women pick up a light dumbbell and perform “isolation” or “sculpting” exercises I want to pull my hair out. It’s not that there is anything wrong with these dumbbell exercises. It’s just they aren’t designed to get the results the exerciser wants or needs.

And that is a waste of valuable training time.

Let’s face it, most people have trouble setting aside time to work out as it is. When they do get themselves to the gym, or set aside part of their busy day to work out at home, the last thing they want to do is waste their time. Every minute spent training needs to count! So, stop wasting your time with those dinky weight dumbbell workouts, and start using dumbbells to their full potential.

At this point, some of you might be offended. You may believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that “isolation” dumbbell exercises and “feeling the burn” is the way to get the most out of your dumbbell workout. (Even though you’ve failed to make major changes to your body). Please, keep reading and give me a chance to change your mind.

Honestly, most people start dumbbell workouts, or any workout for that matter, because they want to change the way they look. Yes, there are health and performance benefits to a properly performed dumbbell workout. But, who are we kidding, appearance is the top motivating factor!

And, since we are being honest, most people only start to work out when their appearance gets so bad they just can’t stand it anymore. They’ve ignored the lack of muscle tone and the accumulating fat for so long they are not just out of shape, they are REALLY out of shape! They just don’t need to lose a pound or two of fat and tone up their arms. They need to lose a LOT of fat and build a LOT of muscle to make a major impact on the way they look!

So, the dumbbell workouts they perform should be designed to build muscle and burn fat, preferably in the shortest time possible. So, they pick up a 2 pound dumbbell and perform triceps kickbacks. Wrong, wrong, WRONG!

Let’s look at it this way:

A sculptor is given a 2 ton block of granite to sculpt a figure that ultimately weighs 1/2 ton. Should they:

a) Use a small pick and start to lightly tap on the block?

or

b) Pick up a sledgehammer and whack away most of the unneeded material?

I hoped you picked option b!

You see, when you have a lot of work to do, use the right tool for the job!

So, if your goal is to significantly change the way you look by putting on muscle and burning fat, make sure your dumbbell workouts are designed to do both. Don’t waste your time with small weights and small exercises. Dumbbells are an excellent choice for full body transformation, but only if you use them correctly!

Here are three tips for changing the way you look with dumbbell workouts:

1. Perform dumbbell exercises that recruit as many big muscle groups as possible.

Dumbbell lifts like squats, deadlifts, rows, presses and cleans, snatches and jerks require a lot of big muscle groups to complete the movement. Plus, using big muscle groups allows you to use heavier weights. Using more muscle with heavier weights means more muscle!

2. Perform dumbbell exercises that require a great deal of energy.

Heavy grinding exercises, explosive exercises and combo matrixes require a lot of energy for completion. Expending more energy means less fat!

3. Perform dumbbell workouts in such a manner as to simultaneously build muscle, improve cardiorespiratory endurance and burn fat.

Doing workouts like super sets, timed circuits and peripheral heart action training, you can make your dumbbell workouts SUPER efficient. You’ll get the most out of your training time by attacking your body on many fronts!

I hope this short article has opened your eyes to the true value of dumbbells in your quest to change the way you look. If you want to see the greatest change in appearance in the shortest period of time, leave the light weight dumbbell workouts alone, and start using dumbbell to their full potential. Following the above tips makes your dumbbell workout more effective than ever before!
